Wins and losses can be deceiving, especially at the state meet.
While the Plainfield North duo of Chris Veselka and Kevin Wilson couldn’t match their two wins at state last year, they did pick up one last Thursday at Fremd High School in Palatine.
Last year they lost their first match before picking up two wins. This year they won their first match, giving them much harder competition the next two matches.
“It’s a little deceiving with where your wins come from,” Wilson said. Last year we ended up going further than the team we lost to because the backdraw is easier. I think we played better this year. We played the way we have all season.”
They opened with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Sandburg.
“Sandburg was a good match,” Wilson said. “They are a good team and to beat them in two sets was great.”
Then they faced a 9-16 seed team from Fremd and fell 6-0, 6-0.
