In high school sports, nothing beats an underdog pulling off a major upset, a dramatic finish to a game or a major performance by a group of individuals when it matters most. Here are District 202's top sports events of the year, based on surprise, importance and the flare of the dramatic.
No. 10 Walk-off jolt
With sectional seeds already out, the nonconference battle between No. 3 sectional seed Lockport and No. 5 Plainfield Central turned into the local softball game of the year.
With the score tied at five, Central's Karly Jackson robbed a homerun to keep the score tied for pitcher Cara DeLange.
With a new life, DeLange decided to help her own cause.
In the bottom of the seventh DeLange belted a walk-off homer on the first pitch of the inning to defeat the Porters 6-5.
The loss snapped a 14-game win streak for Lockport. |
